The Portrait Portal

A unique and immersive photo experience
that placed guests directly into the content.

Google Pixel Project Body-1

Introduction

Google Pixel needed a versatile experiential marketing solution to showcase its superior camera technology across high-profile cultural events. The challenge was to create a mobile brand activation that felt premium and customizable, capable of transitioning from the high-energy atmosphere of the WNBA All-Star Weekend to the sophisticated aesthetic of an HBO partnership. We had to move beyond the traditional photo booth to provide an immersive environment that functioned as a high-performance content engine for fans and influencers.

NRG engineered the Portrait Portal, a hexagonal immersive installation lined with floor-to-ceiling mirrors and integrated LED panels. By treating the structure as a digital canvas, we were able to wrap guests in custom, theme-driven environments – from undulating desert vistas in Phoenix to the lush, cinematic landscapes of Sicily. This multi-sensory brand activation leveraged the Google Pixel’s cutting-edge capabilities to turn a simple walkthrough into a sophisticated art installation, providing every guest with a high-resolution, shareable digital takeaway.

The impact was a traveling sensation that generated massive organic reach and deepened audience engagement through high-quality user-generated content. By bridging the gap between physical experience and digital sharing, the Portrait Portal successfully positioned the Google Pixel as the essential tool for modern creators. This award-worthy execution proved that compelling content creates experiences, delivering a scalable and impactful connection to the brand across diverse cultural touchpoints.

What Is The Portrait Portal?

At its core, The Portrait Portal is more than just a photo op. It’s a multi-sensory experience that marries Google Pixel’s cutting-edge camera capabilities with immersive, content-rich environments. Constructed as a hexagonal tunnel lined with floor-to-ceiling mirrors, the portal acts as both a reflective art installation and a digital canvas, seamlessly integrating large-scale LED panels that adapt to each activation’s theme

WNBA All Star Weekend.

In the blazing desert sun, we transformed the Portrait Portal into a reflective oasis, bringing the Arizona landscape to life. LED panels wrapped guests in undulating desert flora and vibrant, otherworldly vistas that morphed and transitioned to create endless photo-ready moments. Each guest walked away with a Pixel-powered, high-res digital takeaway — a visual souvenir that blurred the lines between art and tech.

HBO's The White Lotus Pop-Up.

For HBO’s takeover of the Four Seasons, we leaned into the lush, evocative landscapes that have defined each season of The White Lotus. Guests stepped into the portal to find themselves enveloped in iconic title scenes — from the sun-soaked shores of Hawaii to the opulent gardens of Sicily.

The result? A cinematic, high-impact takeaway that placed them directly within the show’s iconic visual aesthetic.

With The Portrait Portal, NRG turned a simple concept — a photo tunnel — into a fully immersive, ever-changing canvas that not only captured attention but became a content engine in its own right. Because when Pixel is the lens, every shot is a masterpiece.
