Devin Booker
Community Court - Mosspoint, Mississippi
Introduction
Mr Cartoon’s tribute to the Son of Moss Point.
Moss Point, Mississippi wasn’t considered a place that exuded greatness; but when NBA star and Olympic Gold Medalist Devin Booker decided to team up with 2K Foundations, people started singing a different tune.
Alongside NRG, the team renovated not one, but two local courts: one at park in South40 and another at the 2nd Street park. When it came time to unveil the work, the community was beaming with pride.
What We Did
Revitalized Two Courts With The Help Of Two Legends
We headed back to where it all began. The place: Devin Booker’s Mississippi hometown, where he attended the same high school as his father and grandfather. Growing up there was never a place to host a proper basketball game. Devin, alongside 2K Foundations, was on a mission to change that.
Our team went on a hunt to find court locations that could be rehabilitated or rebuilt and came to the table with 2 very viable options. The team couldn’t pick just one, so we decided to do them both. Neither court had been played on for over 20 years and both were mostly overrun by weeds.
We knew we needed to fix the problem and find a solution to create a space where the community could come together. Devin convinced long-time friend, Los Angeles tattoo artist Mr. Cartoon to jump on board and create something truly special on each of the courts. The resulting design honored the high school basketball legacies of Devin and his father.
