Introduction
It’s not every day you get the opportunity to refurbish a community basketball court in Slovenia. But when Luka Dončić was announced as the NBA 2K22 cover athlete that’s exactly what we did.
Growing up in Slovenia, basketball was one of the most popular sports and with a court directly behind his home, it’s no wonder how Luka Dončić picked up the game and became one of its best players.
Riding the heels of the NBA 2K22 cover athlete announcement, he took us straight back to where it all began – Ljubljana. Together, with 2K Foundations, we provided a gift to his hometown that would inspire generations to come.
What We Did
Resurrect Luka's Childhood Home Court
With the help of the Basketball Federation of Slovenia and 2K Foundations, we were able to refurbish Luka’s home court where he grew up learning the game. To bring the court to life and incorporate Luka into the design, Nejc Prah, a Slovenian designer was Luka’s top pick. Nejc jumped at the opportunity and worked closely with Luka to create the bold design. The bright, geometrically driven artwork utilizes Luka’s jersey number 77, his initials, and the colors of his then team, the Dallas Mavericks.
The community was floored at the masterpiece. League teams from all over the country came to see the finished court and meet the real-life icon in person.
